Our July: Summer of Fun is officially over and that can only mean one thing—Time to get “Realz!”
This year we’ve been concentrating on the theme “Be Loved, Check Yourself, Love, Repeat.” If we can get this concept down there is nothing that we cannot overcome or accomplish. Over the last few months we took a look at:
*Being Loved (by self, in relationships, in community, and in the world)
*Checking Yourself (your connections, control, concerns, and complaining)
*Love (yourself, your relationships, your community, and your world)
*And Repeat (sustain)
As we reenter into our school year and start to transition out of summer we will also reenter into Being Loved, Checking Yourself, Love, and Repeat. Over the next couple months we will focus on Conflict, Confrontation, Resolution, and Sustaining.
August. Be Loved: Conflict
September. Check Yourself: Confrontation
October. Love: Resolution
November. Repeat: Sustain
If you have any stories, thoughts, or ideas that you think would be beneficial for any of the upcoming weeks or months please feel free to email me at justin@oasisakron.org. It’s always great to get feedback and thoughts from you all; and exciting when we’re able to incorporate more of you into our events. However; Judy, I wasn’t able to get turning the sanctuary into a giant slip and slide approved. Love the spirit, though. 😉
And lastly, this Wednesday will be a typical outreach night format. Doors open at 4, dinner at 5:15, and the experience to follow. Hope to see you all out!
Is it just me or does summer seem to be flying past!? Before we know it we will be back into the school year and counting down the days until next summer. That is why we are trying to squeeze in as much FUN as possible in our “July: Summer of Fun!”
This Wednesday we will be closing out our “July: Summer of Fun” with a cookout. There will grilling, ladder ball, four-square, and much, much more to experience. Doors will open at 4 and there will be basketball until 5:15. At 5:15 we will all move outside for some cookout goodness. We will remain outside until the end of our Outreach Night experience.
Hope to see you all Wednesday!
Tonight we have a very special Outreach Night planned. As part of our theme of Love: In Community, we would like to honor two very special people who have loved our community for a very long time.
Tonight we will have a special thank-you portion of our event dedicated to Jeanne and Verle for all of their years of service to Oasis. After which we will materialize the actions of communal effort and feeding the hungry in the much anticipated and awaited, Human Hungry Hippos!
You will not want to miss tonight!
Doors open at 4, Dinner at 5:15, The Hunger to follow at 5:45!
If you haven’t already please check out the article in the Akron Beacon Journal about OASIS!
OASIS will be closed from Friday May 23rd through Monday May 26th. Have a happy and safe Memorial Day!
The Reinberger Foundation has once again had the generosity of spirit to grant OASIS $5000 for The Way program. The Way is a commitment that youth make to finish their education, to continue their schooling and training after high school, and to seek and maintain employment. Thanks to the Reinbergers for the way they help to change the world by helping OASIS youth to become dependent on God and independent in the world.
OASIS has received a beautiful Kimball grand piano from Judy and Mark Ohlinger. This instrument is donated in loving memory of Michael Tople, son of Jamie and Mike Tople. Please watch for the OASIS worship service in the near future to dedicate this piano to God’s purposes at OASIS. The youth, staff and volunteers of OASIS are grateful and honored to be entrusted with this fine piano. Thanks to the Ohlinger family for their generosity.
OASIS is pleased to announce its new location at 847 Crouse St. in Akron. We are excited to launch this new SPACE FOR GRACE!
OASIS is creating an open, accepting safe place for teenagers and young adults to gather and form community. A full gymnasium, sanctuary, classrooms and a six-bedroom house will all be used in collaboration with other churches and agencies to provide spiritual and recreational activities for transformation and hope.
A heartfelt thanks is extended to St.John/St.Paul Lutheran Church for the inception of OASIS and for over seven years of vital ministry since 2006.
We are very excited to announce that we received a generous grant of $500 from the Lloyd L & Louise K Smith Foundation. We greatly appreciate the foundation’s continued support. Check out the article on the Lloyd L & Louise K Smith Foundation in the Akron Beacon Journal.
